Heavy Traffic
Today we had a team meeting in which we have discussed what we need to research.
Heavy traffic
We've established that there would be a 10 levels each taking the player to the different city around the globe.
Cities
-Chinese docks (ships, forklifts etc)
-London (Big Ben, London Eye)
-Rio De Janeiro (Statue of Jesus)
-New York (Times Square, Statue of Liberty etc)
-Paris (Eiffel tower)
-Moscow (Kremlin)
-Sydney (Opera house)
-Rome (Colosseum)
-Finland (Fathers Christmas house)
-Berlin (the Brandenburg Gate)
Another thing we wanted to have are different characters from different places, but I am not so sure about this. We will see how the project carries on.
Vampire Game
Reference movies
-Van Hellsing
-Adams Family
-Nosferatu
-Interview with the Vampire.
Places I want to design are a gothic city, a graveyard and a willow forest.
Dungeon Crawler
For this game I will have to come up with the narrative.
The premise of the game is that the player takes up the role of a viking style plunderer and ventures throughout the world pillaging as well humans as different type of mythical creatures and spirits.
I thought of a three different stages for the game.
Scandinavia - The most desolate place of them all, inhabited mainly by mythical creatures. The environments would look very bleak and desaturated. The atmosphere would evoke the feeling of death, stagnation, coldness.
Europe - War driven place with slightly more earthy colours. Browns, greens etc... The environment would have more buildings and vastly inhabited by humans.
Persia - A rich place full of palaces. Inhabited by both people and creatures/spirits. The colour scheme would be saturated reds, yellows and dark browns.
Because of the fact that the art style changes throughout the game I will have to make the character carefully so it would stand out on each of the stages. Mock up mood sheets should suffice.

Play Harald The Viking!
This is a game similar to the one I am designing. The main character is Harald the viking that is out on a quest to kidnap nuns from a monastery.

Video Library
This blog has been created for the purpose of research for the final year project. I will collect all my findings relevant to the games I am designing this year.
The games are a three for an iPhone and one destined for the browser.
Unnamed Vampire game - The game is a quirky styled sidescroller about a silly vampire trying to get to his coffin before the sunrise. I want the game to have very styl
ised chibi-ish playful style. The game is going to keep the typical 19th century gothic look, though.
My main influences are:
Heavy Traffic - This is going to be another humorous sidescrolling game with gameplay similar to Canabalt. There would be only one difference, the physics are going to be skewed so everything loose will be tumbling around. I haven't decided on the visual style yet. However, I want it to be quite cartoonie too. The main character probably will be a hobo trying to survive.
During one of the study sessions we've had with another Games Art students I was designing a main characters and Grant Topping gave me up a great idea. He came up with that the main character should be a hobo with a shopping trolley. Then together we realised that he could ride in it, for a humorous effect. I imagine the style for Heavy Traffic would be similar to games such as Alien Hominid and Super Meat Boy.
Unnamed Dungeon Crawler - This game is going to be the final project. I want it to have strong norse influences, but still retaining wester Diablo'esque dungeon crawler attitude. Art style wise I've been influenced by evocative videoclips by Amon Amarth, Finntroll, Metsatoll and several other bands. In particular song Guardians of Asgard, which has a lot of mythical characters and symbols in it.
In games there is Skyrim, Dark Souls and Vikings the battle for Asgard, which art style highly influences me.
Slain, Thorgal and the Northlanders are comic books featuring some sort of germanic mythology or historical elements. I am featuring them here as my other sources of influence.
